Fishtown is named for the shipyards and fishermen who built upon the shores of the Delaware River. It was home to industry and hardworking businessmen for many decades, but the community suffered in the slump after World War II. Much of the neighborhood sat vacant for years, but then in the late 20th century, it was revitalized and quickly transformed into the home of some of Philly’s most cutting-edge residents.
Narrow streets lined with row houses make up much of Fishtown. The layout of this area of the city eschews the usual grid format of many other neighborhoods, giving it a rambling feel that adds to its charm. Fishtown’s row houses come in many sizes and were built in a variety of decades, giving homebuyers plenty to choose from.

Penn Treaty Park is a historic Philadelphia spot, but now is a gorgeous waterfront park where Fishtown residents enjoy the outdoors with events, picnics, and recreation. One of the events that take place at the park is Fishtown RiverCity Festival. This annual afternoon of fun was started to reinforce the community bonds and celebrate all the delightful things that Fishtown offers.
