Lower Merion has a long, storied past. Like most of the Philadelphia area, it was founded by Quakers. It has the longest continuously used house of worship in the country, dating back to 1695. After a long rural past, the railroad created a boom of growth both residential and commercial, and Lower Merion Township grew into the upscale community that it is today.
